OPEN HOUSE HOBART 2023 | PRINCES PARK MAGAZINE

Saturday 11 November 2023 | Tours: 1 pm, 1:45 pm, 2:30 pm and 3 pm.

Princes Park Magazine, Castray Esplanade, Battery Point

* On Saturday, 11 November, we encourage everyone to observe a 1-minute silence at 11 am for Remembrance Day.

Overview

Beneath Princes Park in Battery Point is a disused but fully intact subterranean magazine built in 1840; it carried 144 barrels of powder or 200 rounds. Explore the underground space, designed as a ‘room within a room’ to absorb the shock of an accidental blast.

Open House is an annual architecture program that opens some of Tasmania’s most unique buildings to the public, including private homes and historic buildings across lutruwita Tasmania. We acknowledge that Open House takes place on the land of the traditional owners of lutruwita (Tasmania) and pay respects to the palawa people, Tasmanian Aboriginal Community and to Elders - past, present and emerging.
