In this session, David Gianotten will address the theme of risk and focus on the ways his work engages risk as a productive element within their work. OMA Projects currently under his design and supervision include the Taipei Performing Arts Centre in Taiwan, the Hanwha Galleria in Busan Korea, the Taiyuan Industrial Heritage master plan in China and the Prince Plaza Building in Shenzhen China.
Our Risk in Architecture course will deliver outcomes related to the following Competencies from the 2015 National Standard of Competency for Architects: PRACTICE MANAGEMENT 9.1 Knowledge and implementation of appropriate practice model to ensure efficient, effective and ethical professional service. 9.2 Knowledge and application of practice resources required to ensure efficient and effective professional service. 9.7 Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements and obligations in regard to architectural practice, practice management and registration as an architect.
Our Risk in Architecture course will deliver outcomes related to the following Competencies from the 2021 National Standard of Competency for Architects: PRACTICE MANAGEMENT AND PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT PC 1 Comply with the regulatory requirements and obligations pertaining to practice as an architect, including legislation, professional codes of conduct, obligations for continuing professional development and professional indemnity insurance. PC 2 Implement practice resources and apply ethical employment practice methods and quality assurance systems to facilitate efficient, consistent and timely delivery of architectural services. PC 16 Be able to apply risk management and mitigation strategies – including safety in design, project risk, requirement for resilience from the impacts of climate change and appropriate insurances – across architectural services.

Managing Partner-Architect of OMA As partner-in-charge of OMA’s Hong Kong and Beijing offices and director of OMA Asia, David Gianotten led the firm’s large portfolio in the Asia Pacific region and was responsible for the recently completed Shenzhen Stock Exchange headquarters, the end stages of the CCTV headquarters in Beijing and OMA’s conceptual masterplan for the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong. David joined OMA in 2008, launched OMA’s Hong Kong office in 2009, and became partner at OMA in 2010. He studied architecture and construction technology at Eindhoven University of Technology, and before joining OMA was Principal Architect at SeARCH in the Netherlands.
