This module discusses areas of risk arising in architectural practice including avoidable and unavoidable risks, and introduces a number of tools that assist architects in managing risk in the delivery of designs.
This presentation is equivalent to 1 hour/point of formal CPD and will deliver outcomes related to the following Competency/s from the National Standard of Competency for Architects:
3.4 Design response incorporates assessment of relevant legislation, codes and industry standards.

Jenna is an architect working in Sydney, graduating from her Master of Architecture from the University of Tasmania with First Class Honours in 2011. Jenna has spent the last eight years working in both the public and the private sectors, the latter for prominent Australian architectural practices. She also tutors and is a studio leader in both undergraduate and postgraduate subjects at the University of Technology Sydney. In 2014 Jenna was awarded a position on the coveted Dulux Study Tour and has given a lot of her time to the Institute. She is currently an elected Chapter Councillor in NSW, sits on the NSW Education Committee, and was previously a Co-Chair of both EmAGN NSW and EmAGN TAS. Jenna has been a PALS tutor since 2017.

This module provides an understanding of some of the key considerations when initially approached by a client, what to consider in formulating a fee proposal, and what to look out for in a client architect agreement.
1.1 Preparation & endorsement of an agreement between client and Architect. This agreement will clearly communicate terms, services to be provided, and fees appropriate for the scale and type of project.
1.2 Establishment, analysis and evaluation of client project requirements and objectives.

Mark became involved in the profession from the age of 17 working as an office assistant with Brown, Brewer and Gregory. He graduated with honours from UTS in 1989, registered in 1990, and in 1995 was appointed a director of the firm. Mark is now the sole principal of this aged care boutique practice of 12 people.
Mark served as a member of the Australian Institute of Architects NSW Practice Committee from 1995 to 2007 and has been an examiner with the NSW Architects Registration Board for the past 12 years. Prior to that he was a presented in the PALS course and instigated the early edition of the practice management topic.
