2020 Emerging Architect Prize Tour - Sarah Lebner

Thursday 27 May - 6pm

The Embassy Hotel
214 Elizabeth St, Brisbane

The Emerging Architect Prize (EAP) has been developed to recognise an individual emerging architect or architectural collaboration’s contribution to architectural practice, education, design excellence and community involvement, which advances the profession’s role within the public arena. The Emerging Architect Prize is an initiative of the Australian Institute of Architects Emerging Architect and Graduate Network (EmAGN). National Emerging Architect Prize winner for 2020 is Sarah Lebner, and Queensland Emerging Architect Prize winner is Ellen Buttrose.

Enjoy drinks and nibbles while we hear from Sarah and Ellen. Sarah will be calling in live from Adelaide for a Q & A and Ellen will be joining us in person.

This is a free event for Institute members.

Sarah Lebner

Winner of the National Emerging Architect Prize of 2020.

Sarah Lebner exhibits an energy and focus beyond her years. Her nomination had a rare spark, offering a universal reach at two levels. Having joined ACT-based interdisciplinary practice Light House Architecture and Science soon after graduation, she rose to become principal architect within two years.

She leads a team of 11 under the directorship of building scientist Jenny Edwards. Sarah’s generous vision of an architecture for the masses is underpinned by her dedication to climate-change responsiveness.

She aims to simplify sustainable design for homebuilders, and to make thoughtfully designed, energy-efficient homes part of the mainstream

Ellen Buttrose

Winner of the Queensland Emerging Architect Prize of 2020.

As an emerging architect Ellen Buttrose has already executed some of the nation’s highest performing and most innovative sustainable projects amidst challenges of extreme climatic conditions, remote delivery and intercultural engagement.

Ellen brings a local lens to global issues including climate change, indigenous empowerment and housing affordability. The jury was inspired by Ellen’s energy, ethics and competence.

The 2020 Queensland Emerging Architect Prize was awarded to Ellen Buttrose in recognition of her unique accomplishments across all facets of practice, research and education and to provide a platform for the kind of leader the profession desires in its next generation of architects.
