Overview

This is a joint event delivered by the Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA), Planning Institute of Australia (PIA), and Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) to promote and disseminate strategies for flood resilience. Expert speakers will present their research, project work and ideas before participating in a joint panel discussion.

Leah Gallagher, KIN Architecture
Leah is a Chapter Councillor for the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) and her genuine and infectious enthusiasm for the built environment and the people who inhabit our cities has led to her involvement with advocacy and local heritage issues. In 2018 Leah was a State Juror for the AIA Queensland Architecture Awards. She is also a recipient of the 2018 AIA Dulux Study Tour Prize, which recognises excellence in design, community involvement and education. Leah and Marjorie Dixon are directors of KIN Architects, a practice focusing on residential, commercial and community projects.

Shannon Haines 

Shannon is the Natural Hazards Planning Coordinator for Moreton Bay Regional Council. She was awarded the 2015 PIA Queensland Planner of the Year and was recently elected to Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia, for her contribution to risk-based planning for flood hazard and coastal hazard adaptation.

Alan Hoban 

Alan Hoban is a Director of Bligh Tanner, Founder of car-share company Flexicar, and President of Stormwater Australia. In 2020 he was named Queensland Professional Engineer of the Year.

Damian Thompson 

Damian Thompson co-founded multi-disciplinary design studio LatStudios and back in 2011 helped run the Flood of Ideas project with Alan Hoban as a way of trying to make sense of those devastating floods. He is inspired by the intersection of natural and cultural systems and enjoys advancing the field of landscape architecture through theoretical and project work.
