OVERVIEW

The United Nations 2026 IWD theme of “Balance the Scales” calls on our communities to dismantle the structural and societal barriers that deny every woman and girl – regardless of background or identity – the opportunity to be safe, heard, and free to shape their own lives.

The AIA Qld Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (QEDIC) invites members of our profession to hear from a diverse group of Queensland Architects sharing their stories and insights into working in the sectors of social housing, women’s housing and shelters and First Nations communities.

This year's International Women's Day event aims to emphasise the impactful role that architects and our professional partners play in creating and
delivering safe spaces for women of all ages and their families – after all, “Equality is not about advantage for some; it’s about dignity, safety and fairness for all”.

Following a presentation by each speaker the event will feature a moderated panel discussion. Time permitting, there will be an opportunity for the Q&A to open to the floor to allow attendees to engage with the panellists.
