Overview

A conversation with Adam Mornement and Tina Tam of Lovell Chen about approaches to refurbishment and adaptation of heritage buildings that embrace enhanced environmental performance as an essential outcome.

SPEAKERS

Adam Mornement, Director Lovell Chen Architects

Adam has 20 years’ experience in professional heritage practice. He has emerged as a key participant in the development of heritage policy, heritage management planning and conceptions of social value in heritage settings working across projects in Victoria, Tasmania, ACT, Queensland and NSW.

In developing strategies for the adaptive re-use of heritage buildings, and policies and management guidelines for the delivery of conservation objectives in multilayered urban contexts, Adam is conscious that heritage can serve as a catalyst for positive change at a time of considerable social and environmental flux.

Tina Tam, Associate Principal, Lovell Chen Architects

Architect and certified Passivhaus designer Tina Tam works on adaptive reuse, refurbishment and extension of buildings, particularly heritage buildings. Many of her projects are award-winning and significant such as UTAS Phillip Smith Centre and Old Quad redevelopment (University of Melbourne). As a designer, she is interested in the translation of design ideas into buildable solutions, while integrating a fabric-first approach to retrofitting heritage and existing buildings. She has been instrumental in Lovell Chen’s approach to sustainability, embedding it into the way the company designs and practices, making it an attitude of mind and developing evidence-based sustainability goals.

MODERATOR
