Dean Wood

Principal Architect Buildings & Contracts, Department of Finance, WA Government

Dean Wood is Principal Architect in Buildings and Contacts, a division of the Department of Finance, Western Australia. His role is primarily an advisory one, focussing on the quality of design and construction of government’s non-residential buildings, regulatory processes (permits and approvals) and building information management. Dean completed his post-graduate studies (Architecture) and worked as an architect in London before returning to WA. For almost all his 35 years in practice, Dean worked in private sector architectural firms, managing teams in a range of non-residential building types including projects for government.

Dean’s current role at Finance touches multiple aspects of non-residential buildings, their design and construction across a significant range of climate types and sites, from remote regions to suburban and CBD. The range of building types is equally diverse, each with specific requirements, providing many challenges when aiming to achieve long-term value for money in a time of environmental and technological change.
