Overview

Dr Mark Jones LFRAIA is a highly regarded Australian architect whose career integrates Director roles in small and large practice, institutional leadership, and advanced academic teaching and research at the University of Queensland, School of Architecture, Design and Planning.

Mark’s new book, ‘Success in Architectural Practice’ sets out the simple, yet profound proposition that genuine success as an architect is founded on three mutually reinforcing pillars: Excellence, Happiness and Profit. This notion is presented as a practical, evidence-based framework drawn from the author's own experience, management theory, and the lived experience of over forty highly respected architects from across Australia and New Zealand. The book is structured around four headings: Foundations, Positioning, Finances and Management.

In this recorded CPD session from the May 2026 live event, Mark present's the findings of his research into successful architectural practice, with some focus on the Finance section. The event was opened by Professor Ali Cheshmehzangi, Dean and Head of School University of Queensland, School of Architecture, Design and Planning. Peter Dawson, Industry Fellow at UQ, Chairs the event.
