Respecting Country through Design | 1 CPD | Fri 30 July 2021
Reconciliation between non-Indigenous and the First Nations people of Australia is one of the most urgent challenges facing the architectural profession. Architecture is fundamentally connected to Country, and architects require competency in navigating the relationship with Indigenous lands and peoples as part of everyday practice. This CPD event hosts three speakers who offer extensive insight from the Indigenous perspective and provide guidance for practitioners on how to approach this competency in a culturally respectful way. The overarching question posed is: how can architects honour Country through design, while bringing the client along for the reconciliation journey? The formal event has put put together by the Queensland Chapter's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and is available via Zoom for those who cannot join us in person. The first hour of this two hour event will host the three expert speakers and Q&A, after which there is opportunity for networking over drinks and canapes at the Indigenous owned and award-winning Birrunga Gallery & Dining. The kitchen utilises ethically-sourced Native spices and ingredients from a range of trusted Australian suppliers.
