What Does a Regenerative Home Look Like?
16 July 2026
3:30 pm for a 4:00 pm start. Concludes 6:00 pm.
Venue: SA Chapter, Level 2 15 Leigh St, Adelaide SA 5000.
Overview
As architects and designers respond to the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and resource scarcity, the need to move beyond sustainability towards regeneration has never been more important.
Join the Australian Institute of Architects SA Chapter's Regen Design Committee for an interactive workshop exploring how regenerative design principles can be applied to residential architecture.
Working collaboratively in small groups, participants will investigate the opportunities and constraints of designing a regenerative home, considering place, context, materials, environmental performance, community outcomes and long-term resilience.
The workshop will draw on established regenerative design frameworks, including the Living Building Challenge and Handprints of Good Design, while encouraging participants to test ideas, share knowledge and challenge conventional approaches to housing.
Each team will develop a visual infographic illustrating key regenerative design strategies. These outcomes will contribute to a growing knowledge resource that will be shared through the Regen Design Committee and made available to the wider profession.
Whether you are new to regenerative design or looking to deepen your understanding, this workshop offers a practical and collaborative opportunity to explore what homes can give back to people, place and the environment.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Apply regenerative design principles to residential projects.
2. Understand how place and context shape regenerative design outcomes.
3. Evaluate environmental, social and economic considerations in housing design.
4. Communicate the benefits and feasibility of regenerative design.
5. Identify strategies that improve outcomes for people, place and the environment.
